This last week Donald Trump filed a third bankruptcy in just a few years. Wait a second! That's what the headlines said. But it's just Not True! Read the details in the news articles. It states the following:
Donald Trump didn't file bankruptcy personally,
his corporation filed bankruptcy.
Important note: Donald Trump is not his company and his company is not him.
In fact, even though his corporation filed bankruptcies, Trump kept his personal assets separate. You can count on him keeping his homes, his assets, his good credit profile, and his wife's future shopping trips. You can also assume that for the time being while his corporation is "being restructured" under bankruptcy plans, he intends to continue the two million dollar annual salary the company pays him.
While I am saddened by Trump's business challenges, he teaches and confirms again and again to all of us entrepreneurs:
To Minimize Risk Personally, You Must
Keep Your Corporate Business Separate from
your Personal Assets!
The most effective way to do that? Don't
Sign as a Personal Guarantor
(or do so only temporarily
and get removed shortly thereafter).
